The crime in Funchal and the contestation of the service directors in relation to the appointment of Mário Pereira to the position of clinical director of SESARAM were the issues that were highlighted today in the ‘Debate of the Week’ at TSF-Madeira.
Regarding the contestation of service directors in relation to this appointment, which even led them to resign, the Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, Pedro Coelho, said that “what is important is that the Regional Health Service works” , but I wouldn’t accept this position if I didn’t have people on my side.
“I am speaking as a citizen, if I am not in a position to hold this position, because my peers are not with me, I would not accept it. In other words, if I were Dr. Mário Pereira, I wouldn’t accept being a clinical director if I didn’t have most of the clinical directors with me ”, he said.
The Mayor of Funchal, Miguel Silva Gouveia, said that there is a separation of powers between politics and technicians.
“We are on very dangerous ground, because there must be a separation and a very well-defined border between what are positions of political trust and what are imminently technical positions. The President of the Government came to the public to say that whoever chooses the clinical director is the Regional Government and whoever was not satisfied that he resigned. He asked and had, ”he said.
The mayor understands that the behavior of the CDS in relation to this matter, means that it “lost all shame”.
“He is not ashamed to assume a position of clinical director against the professionals who will be directing and he is not ashamed of coming to make considerations of a private forum in public”, he maintained.
Regarding the increase in crime, Pedro Coelho stressed that “Madeira is a safe destination”, but the consumption of psychoactive substances gives rise to the existence of situations such as that which occurred on Avenida de Sá Carneiro.
The mayor of Câmara de Lobos defended more vigilance and inspection, having considered that the night starts late and also ends late. Therefore, it believes that the closing time should be revised.
In addition, he added that the Câmara de Câmara de Lobos wants to implement chambers in the city center.
On the other hand, the Mayor of Funchal reinforced the need for a Municipal Police in the downtown area.
“The project is being developed, it is not something that is done overnight,” he said.
