Peak traffic in French ports in the run-up to Brexit restrictions

In the run-up to new Brexit restrictions, long queues of trucks carrying goods for Great Britain have arisen in French ports such as Calais. Many British companies have used the last month that the British are still under the customs union to transport as much stuff as possible across the Channel.

On December 31 the transitional situation ends this has been the case since the British officially left the European Union at the beginning of this year. No agreement has yet been reached on the way in which trade will proceed from January. Many British companies are afraid that it will certainly be a difficult situation in the first few months and therefore want to build up extra stock now.

The traffic in the French transit ports and at the Eurotunnel is according to the Flemish broadcaster VRT to feel in Belgium. To prevent traffic chaos in Calais, traffic is stopped long before the port.

A regional transport federation tells French media that the buzz has been going on for two weeks and that carriers who have worked with Great Britain for years have never transported so many goods in such a short time. The transport federation complains that the traffic plan around the French ports is not satisfactory.
