The Werra-Meißner Peace Forum and the Wanfried Peace Factory want to demonstrate in the coming week against rising arms spending by the federal government. Background: In the following week, the federal budget for 2021 is to be decided, with spending of 50 billion euros planned for defense.

Werra-Meißner – “We need every euro for investments in social issues, health, the environment, science and education,” write the Peace Forum and the Peace Factory in their press release.

For this reason, the Werra-Meißner Peace Form and the Wanfried Peace Factory appealed to the local SPD member of the Bundestag and Minister of State Michael Roth, calling on him to stand up against an increase in armaments spending and a reduction in the defense budget, as well as the funds freed up for strengthening of the health system and to mitigate the social consequences of the corona pandemic.

The Werra-Meißner peace movement would like to set an example for peace and disarmament in the week before the budget decision. Actions are to take place on Friday, December 4th, from 4.30 p.m. on the market square in Bad Sooden-Allendorf and from 5 p.m. on Bahnhofstrasse opposite in Bahnhofstrasse in Wanfried opposite the Sparkasse. On Saturday, December 5th, further activities are planned from 5 p.m. in Eschwege on the corner of Stad / Forstgasse and from 5 p.m. in Hessisch Lichtenau on the church square. By Maurice Morth
