PD-14 aircraft engine is certified for recognition in Europe

The Aviation Register of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC AR) is engaged in certification of the PD-14 engine, several people familiar with the issue told Vedomosti. This certification is needed in order to accelerate the validation of the engine by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), explained two sources of the publication. Without EASA recognition, motor export is virtually impossible.

In October 2018, the PD-14 received a type certificate from the Federal Air Transport Agency. AR IAC began certification of PD-14 in 2013. In early 2019, IAC AR renewed engine certification at the request of the United Engine Corporation from 2013, one of Vedomosti’s interlocutors knows.

Since 1991, certification of aircraft in Russia and 11 other former republics of the USSR has been carried out by the IAC AR. In December 2015, the Russian government transferred these powers to the Federal Air Transport Agency. A type certificate from the IAC AR is expected in the middle of this year, after which EASA will begin the validation of the engine, it can take up to a year, says one of the interlocutors of the publication.

The head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexander Neradko in an interview with Kommersant called the certification documents of the IAC AR “illegitimate wrappers”.
