Pay Inequalities among New York City Employees by Gender and Ethnicity (Report)

White city workers in New York City’s five boroughs earn an average of $ 7,600 more per year than black employees, and about $ 6,500 more than Asian workers, according to a recent City Council report.

Non-Latin American municipal workers earn an average of $ 8,700 more per year than workers who identify as Latin American, the report also said, which reveals a large wage gap both on the basis of gender and of ethnic origin.

Analysis of the salaries of around 180,000 full-time municipal employees has indeed shown that men generally earn around US $ 4,500 per year more than women.

“These preliminary results are disturbing. For too long, the many contributions of women and people of color have been overlooked. It is incumbent upon all of us to ensure that we go and right these wrongs, by addressing the prejudices and discriminatory practices that contribute to these inequalities in pay and opportunity, ”said City Council Chairman Corey Johnson.

The data was made public following a law enacted last year to identify and correct pay disparities among city employees.
