Patients who have had COVID do not have to take the second dose of vaccine. What does the latest study say!

“People who have been through the disease need only a single dose to get long-term immunity,” said George Rutherford, an epidemiologist and infectious disease specialist at UC San Francisco, according to Los Angeles Times.

Both vaccines, both Pfizer and Moderna, require a two-stage administration every few weeks. The first dose is to strengthen the immune system to recognize and attack the virus-indicative protein, while the second causes the immune system to produce a flow of antibodies.

The second dose is essential for complete and long-term protection against the virus, experts say.

The researchers found in those who already had COVID-19, that a single dose of vaccine increased the level of antibodies against several different variants of coronavirus by up to a thousand times, but also that the second dose did not provide any additional benefit. Data were collected before and after immunization with Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

On the other hand, people who were not infected with SARS-CoV-2 had lower levels of antibodies after two doses of vaccine than people who were previously infected after a single dose.

The National Committee for Anti-COVID Immunization informs that in the last 24 hours, 62,881 doses of vaccine have been administered, of which 46,271 – Pfizer, 8,019 – AstraZeneca and 8,591 – Modern, according to data provided by the National Institute of Public Health , through the application of the National Electronic Register of Vaccinations.

According to CNCAV, 39,938 people were vaccinated with the first dose, and 22,943 people including the second. Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, on December 27, 2020, 3,762,214 doses have been administered to a number of 2,326,484 people, of which 890,754 received one dose and 1,435,730 and the second.

In the last 24 hours, 93 side effects were reported – 10 local and 83 general.

Vaccination balance April 12. Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, there have been 12,238 adverse reactions to Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines, 1,227 local and 11,011 general. At the same time, in the last 24 hours, the Strategic Communication Group announced another 2,323 cases of infection with the new coronavirus, confirmed in the last 24 hours. 113 patients died and 1,529 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized at ATI.
