Patient in Psychiatric Outbreak Accesses Samu Base in Salvador

Salvador,Brazil – A patient undergoing a psychiatric episode who had previously left the San Martin UPA (Urgent Care unit) gained unauthorized access to the base of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) in Salvador early Monday morning,October 8th.
According to a statement released by the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS), the patient breached security adn entered the complex, ultimately falling into an interior space after breaking through part of the ceiling lining. “at the time of the incident, as soon as they identified that it was not an armed person, the professionals contained the patient safely, without registration of injuries between workers or users,” the SMS statement reads.
The patient was immediately returned to the San Martins UPA for appropriate medical care, accompanied by their mother.
The SMS has initiated repairs to the damaged ceiling and painting within the affected area. Additionally, plans are underway to install a new fence around the garage area to enhance security measures and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. These steps aim to reinforce the safety of both staff and patients utilizing the facility.
