pasta, flour and livieto snapped up. Coldiretti data

With the fear of lockdown queues in front of supermarkets, shops and markets have begun of Campagna Amica farmers where an average increase of 20% in customers is estimated to stock up on food products along the Peninsula, compared to last week. This is what emerges from a monitoring of Coldiretti on the occasion of the weekend after the surge in cases of contagion that could lead to more restrictive measures.

Close to a possible lockdown, the demand for basic food products such as fruit and vegetables is growing but also pasta, yeast, rice, eggs, flour, sugar, meats, cheeses and wine to be put in the pantry to stock up. The food supply – underlines the Coldiretti – is insured in Italy thanks to the work of 740,000 farms and stables, 70,000 food processing companies and a capillary distribution network with 230,000 points of sale including shops, supermarkets, discount stores and farmers’ markets in Campagna Amica. There are over three million Italians who continue to work in the food supply chain, from the countryside to industries to transport, shops and supermarkets, to ensure continuity in the supply of food and drinks to the population. It is therefore necessary to avoid unnecessary files which – states Coldiretti – favor gatherings and increase the risk of the spread of the infection but also unnecessarily put the supply system and the workers involved under stress.
