Simpang Empat, West Pasaman–West Pasaman District has declared an Unusual Event (KLB) status for dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) following the deaths of two residents in Sungai Aur District. The declaration, effective for twice 14 days, prompts urgent calls for preventative action across all 90 nagari (villages) within the region.
“We invite all people in 90 West Pasaman nagari to make preventive efforts with the term 3M Plus, which is to drain, close, and bury,” stated Head of the West Pasaman District Health Office, dr. Gina Alecia, M. Kes., on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
3M Plus expands upon the customary 3M movement – draining water reservoirs, closing water storage containers tightly, and burying used items that can collect rainwater. The updated approach also encourages larval control, the use of mosquito nets or coils, installing screens on ventilation, and maintaining clear waterways to prevent flooding.
The District Health Office (DHO) is also implementing a “3T” strategy within the medical field: early detection of DHF cases, thorough follow-up examinations and care at health facilities, and environmental management to limit transmission.
The Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary carrier of the dengue virus, breeds in clean, standing water found in common household items like bathtubs, dispensers, bottles, cans, used tires, and bird drinking containers. This mosquito is most active between 9:00-10:00 AM and 3:00-5:00 PM (WIB).
DHF is a contagious disease characterized by sudden high fever, headaches, muscle and joint pain, nausea, skin rashes, and potentially mild bleeding. Delayed treatment can be fatal.
The Aur Sungai Puskesmas (community health center) urges residents experiencing prolonged fever to seek immediate medical attention. “DHF can be prevented if we together maintain the cleanliness of the environment,” a local health worker emphasized.
The West Pasaman Regent has directed all nagari to strengthen preventative measures and increase community education regarding DHF. (SSC/NIR)
