Party colleagues consider distrust of Boris Johnson – VG

IN PROBLEMS: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson faces opposition in his own party after several parties during the shutdown were revealed. On Tuesday, the Prime Minister was visiting a hospital in north London.

A threshold is beginning to approach in order to promote a no-confidence motion against the British Prime Minister, British media reported late Tuesday night. It may come already this week.

Published:

20 representatives of the Conservative party met for lunch on Tuesday to discuss Johnson’s future, writes The Telegraph and The Times. This faction in the party consists of representatives where all were elected in 2019.

It was proposed to send a letter of no confidence to the party’s leadership on Wednesday. It takes 54 more letters to submit a no-confidence motion. According to a Tory source in the party, the “letters are already flying in”.

“Everywhere the letters fly in, and if the whippers think they do not, then they are damn bloody deluded,” the source told The Telegraph. The person thinks the threshold “with ease” can be reached this week.

The frustration is spreading

Both newspapers are traditionally conservative heavyweights in the UK and are considered to have good sources in the Conservative party.

The frustration is spreading and is not limited to this faction in the party, according to Telegraph sources. But the newspaper has also spoken to representatives from the faction who believe it has all been blown out of proportion.

– I think there is a lot of shit being thrown out about the 2019 representatives. I think many colleagues are standing firm rather than wavering now, says another source.

The Guardian also writes that a number of representatives from several parts of the party believe there will be enough letters for the leadership to be challenged.

– The mood (in the party, journ.anm.) Has changed dramatically. He is in real trouble, says a source to The Guardian.

Garden parties

Dissatisfaction has spread in recent days after several parties and more details about parties held in Downing Street and other ministries were shut down in the UK.

A garden party in May 2020 and other parties, including a party the night before Prince Philip was buried, was carried out in violation of the strict corona rules in force at the time.

Boris Johnson har tried to apologize and has also claimed that no one told him it was not a job event. The case complex is investigated by an independent group.

According to The Times, Johnson has called a meeting in his office with representatives from the 2019 faction to try to calm the mood.

Deeply and sincerely sorry

During the mourning period for Prince Philips’ death in April last year, two parties are said to have been arranged in the prime minister’s residence, which is said to have ended with around 30 people gathered for festivities, according to British media. Prime Minister Boris Johnson was away and not at the party, which he now regrets “deeply and sincerely”.

On Tuesday, Johnson denies lying about festivities, as his former close adviser and now arch-enemy Dominic Cummings claims on his blog.

– No one explained to me that what we did broke the rules. That the current event was not a job event, Johnson says about one of the parties in a closed UK.
