Participatory budget in Rennes: last days to vote online – Rennes

The sound of “melting” slamming on the board. This is what will resonate if the place dedicated to Breton puck and Rennes culture – for the moment at the top of the votes – sees the light of day. Since 2016, the municipality of Rennes has been offering a direct democratic process so that citizens can decide on the allocation of part of the community’s budget. Launched on April 2, the campaign to vote for this 5th edition of the participatory budget
ends this Sunday evening at 7 p.m. And the winners will be known the next day. For the time being, more than 12,600 Rennais have already given their opinion, or 37,000 votes. According to the town hall of Rennes, the implementation of the projects will begin in May 2021.

A budget of 3.5 million euros and 252 projects in the running

This year, 3.5 million euros are devoted to this operation. This is the equivalent of 2.7% of Rennes’ forecast investment budget for 2021. The process for voting is simple: on the site of the Fabrique Citoyenne, each Internet user can distinguish up to 10 projects of their choice. And these are not lacking: 252 projects were selected by the city on themes around the development of public spaces, mobility, nature in the city or even culture, leisure and sports. All Rennes residents can vote, regardless of age and nationality. In each district, the two projects that came out on top will be selected. Usually, residents can cast their votes in ballot boxes set up in different neighborhoods. But these were sometimes able to be closed due to containment.
