Now that The Last of Us: Part 2 has an official release date and pre-orders are available again on the PlayStation Store, Sony Interactive Entertainment has updated the file size requirements to confirm the minimum free space and number of discs required for the game.
As you can see above, the game has a minimum file size of 100 GB, making it the second game this year after Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which requires so much free hard disk space.
Red Dead Redemption 2, released on the PlayStation 4 console in 2018, also came on two discs. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare had a huge first day patch and the final install size was over 100 GB, which will soon reach 200 GB with new content updates.
Sony delayed the release of The Last of Us Part 2 from May 29 to June 19, after the COVID-19 pandemic affected the physical production and delivery of the game. As a result of this delay, Sony also removed the game from the PlayStation Store and returned pre-orders.
