Parliament: Roger Mélingui to replace Ndongo Essomba

ROGER-MELINGUI replaces Ndongo Essomba in the parliamentary group

Roger Melingui is now the chairman of the parliamentary group of Democratic Rally of the Cameroonian People (RDPC) to the National Assembly. The deputy of Mefou-Afamba benefits from the sociological balance instituted in fact by the President of the Republic since his accession to the supreme magistracy. Only the Lékié department from which Jean Bernard Ndongo Essomba died last week from illness, loses this privileged position; but the Center region keeps him.

This is the main change made in the constitution of the office of the Lower House of Parliament. For the rest, Paul Biya handed over the same pawns already known for years. So, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril was reappointed as head of the National Assembly, and Marcel Niat Njifenji in the Senate. The constitution of the office is final, for a legislative year in the Lower House, while the team of the Upper House is only there for a few days. Indeed, with the election of new senators, the law gives the President of the Republic ten days to appoint the last thirty senators, from the date of proclamation of the results of the senatorial elections. However, this exercise took place on March 23. Paul Biya has until April 2 to complete the list. Then the new senators will have to be sworn in on the second Tuesday following the proclamation of the results. Which gives April 11, 2023 for this exercise which will have to devote the status of senator to the elected officials of 2023.

Thus, the current team at the head of the Senate will lead for a two-week freelance, and will free the floor. But apart from cases of death, Paul Biya who redistributes all the cards from the Palace of Unity, is used to remaining faithful to the same men. Already all the senators of the CPDM, the ruling party, have been elected. As a result, the men chosen by the Party of Flames and who were in office within the office, can be almost certain to be renewed. As well as the nominees who, unless surprised, should benefit from the confidence of the wrenmaker. Among them, Niat Njifenji.
