Paris Saint-Germain went out in the round of 16 in the Champions League – again.
Philipp Lahm, who won the tournament with Bayern Munich, does not write kindly about the exit.
– PSG has a fundamental problem, Lahm writes in The Guardian.
The year was 2013 when Philipp Lahm, 39, won the Champions League with Bayern Munich.
The German has since put his football boots on the shelf, but that does not stop him from questioning Paris Saint-Germain’s performance against Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
”PSG can make you sad. In Bayern Munich’s recent display, we didn’t see any of the class this team should show given their players. On the one hand the exit was disappointing, on the other hand it was not a surprise as PSG’s early exit from the Champions league happens all the time.”

“Messi was helpless and desperate”
Philipp Lahm also criticizes PSG’s ability to get the best out of their star players.
“Kylian Mbappe is a story of his own. In Munich he was constantly waiting for the ball to reach his feet. It is hard to imagine that his career will flourish in Paris.”
“Messi also showed his extra class at moments in Munich, but his qualities are used without purpose or direction. The individuals in PSG simply do not know how to score a goal as a collective and how to contribute. Messi was helpless and desperate at the Allianz Arena.”
Compare the team to a luxury store
The former Bayern Munich player shows sympathy with the PSG supporters.
“You can feel sorry for PSG supporters. Their hope that something will grow together dies anew every year. They believe in something else. PSG are as far from anything to love as they’ve ever been, despite years of investment.”
Lahm also believes that PSG can be compared to a luxury store.
”This incredibly expensive team is like a luxury store, displaying valuable exhibits that everyone marvels at but no one can afford. It guarantees a lot of attention and spectacle, but it only works financially. If so much money is spent but the opposite of quality is displayed, it is not good.”
PSG crashed out of the Champions League in the round of 16 after losing 3–0 on aggregate to Bayern Munich over two games.
In the league, the Paris club tops the table with seven points.
