Paris recognizes “increased cases” but rules out that this is “gigantic”: “Remember what we had on June 21”

In a new balance by the coronavirus situation in the country, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, began his intervention by conducting an analysis of the cases of covid-19 in the country in the midst of the deconfinement measures that have been decreed in several communes of the country.

Along these lines, the authority recognized a “increase” in the number of cases, but ruled out that this is “gigantic”, as some institutions have described it, he said.

“The Ministry of Health ensures the health of the entire population of Chile. We are concerned about all the regions and we are aware that Magallanes, Atacama, Tarapacá and La Araucanía have had changes in the incidence and have high rates ranging between 281 per 100,000 inhabitants, in Magallanes, and 159 per 100,000 inhabitants in less attacked regions “, expressed Paris,

The authority reported that at the national level the incidence remains at 78 per one hundred thousand inhabitants and that the variation in weekly cases is negative by 12% in recent days.

“We are not unaware of the reality of the regions, we are very concerned about them. This has also been stated by some study centers. However, it must be recognized that other regions have very good, very negative variations“, Held.

Meanwhile, regarding the positivity in relation to the PCR test, Paris assured that it has decreased from 38% on June 21 to 5.2% in August. “Which means we’ve done a good job,” he said, adding that the WHO rates 5% PCR positivity as “acceptable value.”

“We are missing very little, we are missing the second”he commented, citing the late coach Eduardo Bonvallet.

Paris also highlighted that between June 21 and August 16, the number of PCR tests in the Metropolitan Region increased “in an impressive way”. Along these lines, she explained that 137,000 PCRs are being carried out per million inhabitants, which is higher than New Zealand and Germany.

“The daily increase in new cases to June 21, shows that we had 3,800 new cases, as of August 16 the number of new cases is 500,” he reported.

“It is true that with an increase in examinations, new cases increase a little. But this should not be seen as a huge increase. We recognize the increase, we are always worried, but when institutions say that the increase is gigantic, please remember what we had on June 21 when we had more than 3,800 cases a day! “said the minister.

“We must recognize the effort of the population and the effort of health personnel”, he concluded.
