Parents of students at the Paul-Bert school in Poitiers demonstrate to obtain a pedestrian crossing

Two years. This is the time it took for the parents of pupils at the Paul-Bert school in Poitiers (Vienne) to obtain the pedestrian crossing they insistently demanded at the intersection of rue de la Croix-Blanche and rue du Moulin-à-Vent. A 20 km/h zone called “courtesy” where cross, especially in the morning, cars, motorcycles, buses, bicycles, pedestrians.

A passage “dangerous” according to parents who see their children making their way between vehicles (sometimes parked on the sidewalk) which do not always respect the limitation. They were therefore about thirty this Wednesday morning who came to demonstrate, placards in hand, at the sensitive place.

Zebra and speed increased to 30 km/h

The elected official in charge of roads at the town hall of Poitiers, also present, wanted to reassure everyone. After two years of fruitless dialogue, the community will finally put up a zebra (zone where it is forbidden to drive, stop and park, editor’s note) and signage worthy of the name next September. To do so, it will be necessary to “increase the speed to 30 km/h in order to comply with the highway code”. As surprising as the answer is, she satisfies the parents that broaden the mind.

For Natacha, a mother, “We now have to tackle the problem of parking for families at the Providence school. They have no place to drop off their children. A quick stop would be a good idea to prevent them from parking on the sidewalks, as is the case today”.
