Parents of American school shooter charged | Abroad

The boy killed four fellow students, ages 14 to 17, and injured seven others at the school not far from Detroit. Ethan Crumbley has been charged with murder and terrorism. Ethan’s parents are said to have fled their town for security reasons, but authorities say they will be back soon. It is not known when they will have to appear in court.

His father had purchased the used semi-automatic weapon four days earlier, according to justice in the company of his son. The prosecutor had already announced that the father may be prosecuted. At the time, this unusual step was deemed necessary to crack down on gun violence by minors. According to the public prosecutor, gun owners have a responsibility to store their weapons safely. In this case, it would be more than negligence.

The prosecutor is convinced that the boy had planned the murder in advance. The police found a diary in which he described in detail how he intended to shoot around the school. Hours before the shooting, Crumbley’s parents were still at school to discuss their son’s “disturbing behaviour”.

The prosecutor said the shooting could have been prevented. The school will be closed for the next few weeks.
