Paracetamol, ibuprofen and aspirin are no longer free access as of this Wednesday

Paracetamol. The usual dose of paracetamol is 500 mg to 1 g per dose in adults. This intake can be renewed if necessary after an interval of at least 4 hours. As for the maximum dose, it should not exceed 4g per 24 hours (or 3 g for those under 50 kg).

For children, paracetamol is generally presented as an oral solution. “Avoid taking capsules or tablets in children under the age of 6,” notes Health Insurance.

Also check for paracetamol in other medicines you are taking at the same time (used for pain, fever, allergies, cold symptoms or flu like illness)

Finally, do not hesitate to discuss it with your doctor if you suffer from mild to moderate hepatic insufficiency, severe renal insufficiency, chronic alcoholism …

For NSAIDs. Be aware that some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, are more likely to be used than paracetamol. “Use NSAIDs at the minimum effective dose for the shortest duration,” warns the ANSM. Do not exceed 5 days of self-medication in case of pain and 3 days in case of fever. In addition, they are contraindicated in those suffering from:

  • a known history of allergies to NSAIDs, even if it is not the same molecule;
  • stomach or duodenum ulcer and inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis);
  • bleeding problems (coagulation disorders, etc.);
  • liver failure;
  • chronic kidney disease;
  • heart failure;
  • asthma triggered by an NSAID, even if it is not the same molecule;
  • chickenpox due to the risk of serious infectious skin complications.

Finally, the intake of these drugs should be limited in women who are breastfeeding and over 65 years.
