A bomb alert was issued at one of Queen Elizabeth II’s residences on Tuesday night. A team of sappers was immediately dispatched to dispose of a suspicious package in the courtyard of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh.
A 39-year-old man has been detained in the case.
Law enforcement officers searched the entire courtyard of the residence. They have been spotted carrying long sticks as well as placing items in plastic bags.
The sewerage in front of the palace was searched, as well as all the cars in the area. There is an increased police presence on the spot.
However, the media on the island did not report whether the suspicious package was actually a bomb.
The local police reported that there was no threat to the people during the incident, no damage was done to the building.
An investigation is underway.
The Queen and her husband Prince Philip are currently at the Windsor residence.
