The successive lockdowns make people play even more games, but the pandemic is also having negative consequences for the sector. Several games, including the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, are being postponed.

The Polish CD Projekt Red, part of the listed CD Projekt, postponed the launch of the Cyberpunk 2077 game, announced since 2012, for the third time. The new date is now December 10th instead of November 19th.

The game will be released on nine different platforms while the whole team works from home. Apparently this leads to complications that cannot be dealt with with a six-day working week. Initially, the launch was scheduled for April 16, then September 17 and November 19.

Ubisoft

French Ubisoft had to postpone Far Cry 6 as well as Rainbow Six Quarantine. The games are now scheduled for the next accounting year, sometime between April and September 2021. Again, difficulties caused by working from home are highlighted. Due to the postponement, the company lowered its annual targets. The ‘net bookings’ would amount to between € 2.2 billion and € 2.3 billion, compared to a range of between € 2.3 billion and € 2.6 billion that was forecast in May and which already took into account a possible delay.

The first half year was strong for Ubisoft, with sales up 8.5 percent to 757 million euros. The net profit amounted to 21 million euros, compared to only 900,000 euros a year ago.
