“Pakistan Navy's combat capabilities have undergone significant enhancement across all operational domains, including surface, sub-surface, and aerial forces. This transformation has made our maritime force more agile and potent.”
—Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff
The Pakistani Navy is actively enhancing its capabilities. The navy is emphasizing inter-service collaboration, with more joint exercises planned with the PAF. This focus on readiness comes amid a global environment where naval spending has reached unprecedented levels, with an estimated $240 billion spent in 2024 alone (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, 2024).
Technological Advancements and Future Plans
Admiral Ashraf also highlighted the significance of technological innovation in modern conflicts, particularly the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). He announced a partnership between the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park and the Pakistan Maritime Science and Technology Park to advance indigenous capabilities in unmanned systems. This collaboration aims to boost technological independence and enhance the country’s defense capabilities.
The Pakistan Navy is clearly focused on adapting to modern warfare. By investing in both operational readiness and technological advancements, the country aims to strengthen its position and address upcoming security challenges.
