Paid football clubs received a 25 million euro subsidy because of the corona crisis | NOW

Eredivisie clubs and Kitchen Champion Division clubs have received an advance of around 25 million euros in wage subsidy from the Dutch government. This is evident from the UWV register for the second period of the aid scheme from July to September.

During that period, the government supported companies with the NOW 2, a special wage subsidy, that lost at least 20 percent of their turnover due to the corona crisis. PSV took the largest amount with 2,566,920 euros. AZ (1,768,644) and Vitesse (1,711,908 euros) will follow.

Ajax received 1,319,140 euros, but a spokesman for the club says that the advance will be refunded due to the late transfer of Sergiño Dest to FC Barcelona. Due to the transfer fee of at least 21 million, the people of Amsterdam are no longer eligible for the NOW 2.

Heerenveen also received no government support because of an outgoing summer transfer. Chidera Ejuke left for CSKA Moscow for millions of euros.

De Graafschap almost half a million euros

In total, the support for clubs from the Eredivisie amounted to more than 19 million euros. Clubs from the Kitchen Champion Division received a lot less financial support.

De Graafschap was the leader with 559,140 euros. All clubs from the Kitchen Champion Division together accounted for about 4.5 million euros.

In June, KNVB director Eric Gudde predicted that professional football would need a maximum of 140 million euros from the government to survive the corona crisis. The union itself also appealed to NOW 2 and received EUR 1,763,844.
