ÖVP: unanimously for turquoise green

Vienna, It was only a formal act, but an important one: The ÖVP party executive unanimously approved the turquoise-green coalition pact on Friday. “The government program is the best of both worlds. Both parties were able to implement key campaign promises. It is a good program, ”said Sebastian Kurz.

Then the ÖVP chief presented the new government team with six women and five men (plus a state secretary).

Burgenlander changes to the party headquarters

Since the former general secretary Karl Nehammer has moved into the government as interior minister, Kurz also has to rebuild the party: the general secretary post – almost logically – is taken over by the previous ÖVP federal manager Axel Melchior (38). Born in Mödling, he belongs to Kurz’s closest team – but he is considered to be extremely shy of the media.

Burgenland included. His new deputy is different: the job is done by the MP and former ORF journalist Gaby Schwarz (57). A pleasant side effect of the promotion of the current health spokeswoman in parliament: Black is from Burgenland – and her state is the only one that is not represented in the ÖVP government team.

Criticism of “inflated government program”

SPÖ and Neos sharply criticize the turquoise-green government program. Pamela Rendi-Wagner sees at best “good intentions” in the government program of the ÖVP and the Greens. The SPÖ boss says: “It is an ÖVP program with a green camouflage color.” She would be most concerned about social projects. The social minister is only a “breakfast director” without the working agenda, according to the SPÖ. The climate program consists of announcements, Rendi-Wagner finds positive words for the 1-2-3 climate ticket.

Neos boss Meinl-Reisinger complains about the “incredible number of announcements” in the program. On Friday she was horrified by the Greens’ “bankruptcy declaration” regarding the rule of law and human rights. “That would not have happened with us,” she says and appeals to the green federal congress to stop the plans for preventive detention. Meinl-Reisinger thinks it is better to have the Greens in the government than the FPÖ, but she expects the coalition to break up prematurely.

Reactions: Left-wing newspaper etches over greens

The left “daily newspaper” is etching about the new coalition – especially about the Greens.

Berlin, The Taz is always good for provocative headlines. “Pushing off – now emission-free”, this time it is etched in the direction of turquoise green: “Sebastian Kurz’s ÖVP wants to keep pushing off. The cheeky Berliners think that the Greens can protect the climate.

Ralf Leonhard’s editorial ends conciliatory, however: “All of Europe looks at Vienna. And unlike last year, it is not a worried look, but a hopeful one. ”
