The increase in the corona figures seems to have reached a plateau. The average number of new cases rose just 8 percent today to 1,472 per day. This is evident from the most recent figures from health institute Sciensano. More than 69 percent of the Belgian population has already received at least a first shot and more than 55 percent has been fully vaccinated.

It reproduction number – the extent to which sick persons infect others – comes to 1,16. Compared to seven days earlier, that is a decrease of 5 percent. If the value is above 1, the epidemic increases in strength. In other words: 100 infected people pass the virus on to 116 others.

Slightly fewer tests were taken in the period from 19 to 25 July: on average 60,226 per day. This is a decrease of 16 percent compared to a week earlier.

There are currently 311 Covid patients in Belgian hospitals (+11 percent), of whom 96 in the intensive care unit (+13 percent). 49 people are on a ventilator (-6 percent).
