“Our hospital is bad, it is getting worse”: the alarm cry of the caregivers of the Bigorre hospital

On Thursday morning, on the occasion of the appeal for a strike by the CGT with strike, as part of the national day of action for health and social personnel, a demonstration was held in front of the Tarbes Hospital center.

“The situation is getting worse and worse. We have gone through a very difficult summer, with many calls for carers and leave for displaced persons. The management has even gone so far as to recall pensioners who, for the most part, have refused to come”. Very alarming is the observation of Sandrine Bautru, hairdresser of the Ehpad (shelter for non self-sufficient elderly) of Vic-en-Bigorre and treasurer of the CGT union at the hospital center of Bigorre. “We always work at a fast pace. The management’s solution is to close the beds and transfer patients to other unsuitable services. In addition, we are bringing out the elderly who have just been operated on to facilitate home hospitalization, when they should stay in a facility”, explains Françoise Nicolas, nursing assistant at Bigorre hospital, for ten years.

The hospital’s unique “intellectual deception” project

The paramedics of the mobile emergency and resuscitation service (Smur) are also undergoing the reorganization of the service, as explained by Michel Genais. “We’ve switched to one paramedic per vehicle (instead of two previously), and one in four paramedics is assigned to emergencies, on a staggered schedule, not to mention vehicle breakdowns and unsubstituted pickups. It’s simple: when I got back to Smur in In 2014 we were 29 paramedics, today we have only 20, with an average age of 52. Despite a month and a half of strike, the management did not want to hear anything “. Deterioration of working conditions, lack of personnel and above all deterioration of patient care: the same diagnosis was shared by the staff who gathered for the CGT appeal in front of the Tarbes hospital on Thursday morning. “Yes, our hospital is sick. It is urgent to ask for resources that meet the needs of the population in terms of health. The teams are suffering, exhausted, tired from increasingly degraded working conditions” declares the CGT union of the Bigorre hospital center, which denounces “the total inefficiency of the Ségur de la santé to solve the deep ills of our hospital”. Pending the project for a single hospital in Lanne, which the CGT calls an “intellectual deception”, “how to overcome the current deadline without human resources with obsolete equipment, and with little or no investment. What future for our Haut-Health of the Pyrenees? ” you ask.
