Oscars 2021 predictions

For the fifth year in a row we are going with the predictions of the Hollywood Oscars. An atypical season due to the pandemic that has disrupted the delivery date and the choice of candidates, because for the first time in the history of the awards it is not necessary to have been released in theaters during the current year.

Without further delay we go with the forecast. Let us trust that it is better than in past editions because, despite achieving a somewhat high number of hits, we have never guessed the award for best film.

BEST FILM

Everything seems indicated for “Nomadland” to win the “jackpot”. However our favorite is “The father.”

BEST DIRECTION

It seems that the big favorite is Chloe Zhao for the overrated “Nomadland”. An insult if we compare his work with the more complex of David Fincher or Thomas Vintenberg.

  • THOMAS VINTENBERG – ANOTHER ROUND
  • DAVID FINCHER              –   MANK
  • LEE ISAAC CHUNG – MINARI, MY FAMILY STORY
  • CHLOE ZHAO – NOMADLAND
  • EMERALD FENNELL – A YOUNG PROMISING

BEST ACTOR

Favorite is Chadwick Boseman, being a posthumous award but the accolade should go to Anthony Hopkins with his shocking role in “The Father.”

  • RIZ AHMED                   – SOUND OF METAL
  • ANTHONY HOPKINS – THE FATHER
  • CHADWICK BOSEMAN – THE MOTHER OF BLUES
  • GARY OLDMAN – MANK
  • STEVEN YEON – MINARI, MY FAMILY STORY

BEST ACTRESS

Here we coincide between the favorite and our chosen one, as Andra Day plays a spectacular Billie Holiday.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

The award is between Sacha Baron Cohen or Daniel Kaluuya. We bet on the first.

  • SACHA BARON COHEN – THE CHICAGO TRIAL OF THE SEVEN
  • DANIEL KALUUYA – JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH
  • LESLIE ODOM JR. – ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI
  • PAUL RACI                           – SOUND OF METAL
  • LAKEITH STANFIELD – JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Will it finally be Glenn Close’s moment? She is the favorite but watch out for Olivia Colman.

  • MARIA BAKALOVA – BORAT, PELÍCULA FILM SEUELA
  • GLENN CLOSE – HILLBILLY, A RURAL ELEGY
  • AMANDA SEYFRIED        – MANK
  • OLIVIA COLMAN – THE FATHER
  • YOUN YU- JUNG – MINARI, MY FAMILY STORY

BEST FOREIGN FILM

Here we have no doubts. Our favorite and the one with the forecasts is “Another round”.

  • ¿Quo Vadis, Aida?
  • ANOTHER ROUND
  • BETTER DAYS
  • COLLECTIVE
  • THE MAN WHO SOLD THE SKIN

BEST ORIGINAL SCRIPT

The favorite is Aaron Sorkin for “The Trial of the Chicago Seven” but keep an eye on Emerald Fennell for “A promising young woman.” Our favorite, however, is “Sound of metal”.

  • WILL BERSON AND SHAKA KING -JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH
  • LEE ISAAC CHUNG – MINARI, MY FAMILY STORY
  • EMERALD FENNELL – A YOUNG PROMISING
  • DARIUS Y ABRAHAM MARDER – SOUND OF METAL
  • AARON SORKIN – THE CHICAGO TRIAL OF THE SEVEN

BEST ADAPTED SCRIPT

The favoritism is for “Nomadland” although the one we like the most, by far is that of “The father.”

  • SACHA BARON COHEN, ANTHONY HINES, DAN SWIMER, PETER BAYNHAM, ERIKA RIVINOJA, DAN MAZER, JEENA FRIEDMAN AND LEE KERN -BORAT, FILM FILM SEQUEL
  • CHRISTOPHER HAMPTON AND FLORIAN ZELLER – THE FATHER
  • CHLOE ZHAO – NOMADLAND
  • KEMP POWERS – ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI
  • RAMIN BAHRANI – WHITE TIGER

BEST ASSEMBLY

The thing is between “Nomadland” and “Sound of metal” although all the nominees have serious candidacies. We opted for “El padre” or “Sound of metal”.

  • YORGOS LAMPRINOS – THE FATHER
  • CHLOE ZHAO – NOMADLAND
  • FREDERIC THORAVAL – A PROMISING YOUNG MAN
  • MIKKEL EG NIELSEN – SOUND OF METAL
  • ALAN BAUMGARTEN – THE CHICAGO TRIAL OF THE SEVEN

BEST PHOTOGRAPH

Here it seems clear that the black and white photograph of “Mank” is a more or less sung prize.

  • SEAN BOBBITT – JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH
  • ERIK MESSERSCHMIDT – MANK
  • DARIUS WOLSKI – NEWS FROM THE BIG WORLD
  • JOSHUA JAMES RICHARDS – NOMADLAND
  • PHEDON PAPAMICHAEL – THE CHICAGO TRIAL OF THE SEVEN

BEST SOUNDTRACK

Repeat Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It would be the only reason why it did not win the Oscar for “Soul.”

  • TERENCE BLANCHARD – DAY 5 BLOODS: BROTHERS IN ARMS
  • TRENT REZNOR Y ATTICUS ROSS  – MANK
  • EMILE MOSSERI – MINARI, MY FAMILY’S STORY
  • JAMES NEWTON HOWARD – NEWS FROM THE BIG WORLD
  • TRENT REZNOR, ATTICUS ROSS Y JONATHAN BATISTE – SOUL

BEST SONG

Will they give the Oscar to Laura Pausini? We think that the award is between “Judas and the black messiah” and, above all, “A night in Miami”.

  • JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH
  • THE CHICAGO TRIAL OF THE SEVEN
  • EUROVISION SONG FESTIVAL: THE STORY OF FIRE SAGA
  • ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI
  • THE LIFE AHEAD

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN

  • The thing is between “Mank” and “Tenet”, the great forgotten of this edition.
  • THE FATHER
  • THE MOTHER OF BLUES
  • MANK
  • NEWS FROM THE GREAT WORLD
  • TENET

BEST COSTUME

They are all worthy of an award but “Mank” is the one with the most substantial nominations.

BEST MAKEUP

For the same reason as costumes, we bet on “Mank”.

  • EMMA
  • HILLBILLY, A RURAL ELEGY
  • THE MOTHER OF BLUES
  • MANK
  • PINOCCHIO

BEST SOUND

An award that “Sound of metal” deserves. Also fighting against films of much more budget.

BETTER VISUAL EFFECTS

Consolation prize for Nolan. “Tenet” must win this award.

BEST ANIMATION FEATURE FILM

It seems clear that the award has an owner: “Soul”. Anything else would be a major surprise.

  • SOUL
  • BEYOND THE MOON
  • SHAUN SHEEP: GRANJAGUEDÓN
  • ONWARD
  • WOLFWALKERS

BEST ANIMATION SHORT FILM

Without a doubt the favorite is “Burrow” as it is from Pixar. It was going to be the short before “Soul” in theaters.

  • BURROW
  • GENIUS LOCI
  • IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO ME, I LOVE YOU
  • OPERA
  • YES PEOPLE

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE FILM

The favorite is “What the octopus taught me” although the Romanian “Collective” is also nominated for best foreign film. We are left with the environmentalist product of the Netflix factory.

  • COLLECTIVE
  • EXTRAORDINARY CAMP
  • THE TOPO AGENT
  • WHAT THE OCTOPUS TAUGHT ME
  • TIME

BEST FICTION SHORT FILM

It is surprising that Almodóvar is not with “The human voice”. Favorite “The mail room.”

  • FEELING THROUGH
  • THE MAIL ROOM
  • THE GIFT
  • TWO COMPLETE UNKNOWN
  • WHITE EYE

BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM

Between “Hunger Ward” and “A love song for Latasha” is the winner.

  • COLETTE
