Thomas Vinterberg is the first Dane to be nominated for an Oscar for directing
For the moving tragic comedy that celebrates life in all its facets, the filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg can hope for an Oscar as best director. This makes him the first Dane to participate this nomination. “Der Rausch” was in his home country – in the original: “Druk” was the biggest movie hit in 2020 on the screen and thus his biggest hit movie in Denmark to date. His country man and colleague Ulrich Thomsen, with whom Vinterberg made several films, such as “Das Fest” and “Die Kommune”, was enthusiastic about the film.

The film is about Martin, played by Mads Mikkelsen, a passionate teacher. Together with three other friends he talks about the theory of a Norwegian philosopher, according to which they should be more productive with more alcohol in their blood. You decide to do a social experiment and hold a level during work hours. After the first successes, the four friends are enthusiastic. But of course the experiment has serious consequences.
The Danish tragicomedy with Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Lars Ranthe, Magnus Millang and Maria Bonnevie is slated to open in the cinema on July 15th.
