An iconic club for the gay community in Orlando, Florida, the Pulse “is now a sacred place,” said owner Barbara Poma.
The Pulse was the scene of the worst shooting in the history of the United States. The Florida gay nightclub where a man who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group shot dead 49 people in June 2016 will be converted into a museum and place of meditation, its owner announced Thursday.

“I know my role is to ensure that the Pulse becomes a place of healing,” Barbara Poma told a press conference, nearly a year after the worst attack in America since September 11 .

“We will heal together”
“Remember we will not let hatred triumph, we will heal together,” she added, citing the slogan of her foundation, OnePulse, created to help the victims of the shooting and their loved ones. The survivors, their families and the rescue teams dispatched to the scene of the massacre will be able to decide on the design and collection of the museum.

Equipped with an assault rifle and a handgun, he attacked the Pulse on June 12, 2016, around 2 a.m. (8 a.m. in France). For three hours, the police tried to negotiate with the man, who was holding hostages, before storming and killing him.
