Organization claims jailbreak for using Oculus Quest 2 without Facebook account – Gaming – News

An organization that says it is committed to Right to Repair legislation for AR and VR headsets claims that researchers have a jailbreak for the Oculus Quest 2. It makes logging into a Facebook account unnecessary. Logging in is mandatory on the Quest 2.

The organization, XR Safety Initiative, says on its own blog that it is the jailbreak for the Oculus Quest 2 has verified and is calling on other researchers who are also jailbroken to sign up. It is not clear from the announcement whether the organization, which normally focuses on closing security vulnerabilities, wants to publish the jailbreak.

It was clear before that developers were working on a way to use the Quest 2 without a Facebook account. According to XRSI, developers are afraid to do that, as exploring the Quest 2’s developer software could lead to Facebook blocking their accounts.

Tweakers referred to the obligation to have a Facebook account as one of the biggest drawbacks of the Oculus Quest 2. Moreover, this obligation has already caused problems for some users, because of a closed account or a weeks-long process to create an account. The Quest 2 came out this month.
