Rouge Gorge is a small orchard located north of the town of Montauban, nestled between the Aiguillons golf course and the Aveyron river. About ten hectares of apple, pear, kiwi, and a small greenhouse with vegetables. There are also a few buildings, for grading the fruit and storing it in different cold rooms, depending on the shelf life.
Francis Larroque has been working organically since the 1990s. To preserve his fruits, he uses natural methods, which respect the natural evolution of the fruits. Essential element: put apples and pears that can be stored for a shorter or longer time in different cold rooms, to prevent certain fruits from making others ripen more quickly.
Tarn-et-Garonne is the leading apple producing department in France. “Le orchard du Sud-Ouest”, as it is sometimes called, is an ancestral land of fruit production. Francis Larroque explains the reasons for this specialization.
