Ethylene oxide is a pesticide
Ethylene oxide is used in the food sector for its disinfectant action and the prevention of any molds. The use of ethylene oxide has been banned in Europe since 1991, but is widely used in other countries around the world. Such as, for example, in India, where some sesame seeds used in Europe for the production of various products come from.
In recent years, the Ministry of Health has recalled many products for exceeding the legal limits of ethylene oxide. The origin is not only from India, but also from Jordan, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Bolivia, etc.
Ethylene oxide is classified as a substance potentially carcinogenic to humans (EU directive 1272/2008 / EC).
