Orders for the 900-strong Nikola electric pickup start in June

The American company Nikola Motor, which is known for its hybrid trucks, shared in February the first details about the Badger pickup truck. Its main feature is that in addition to conventional batteries, the pickup will be equipped with hydrogen-generating fuel cells generating electricity. The company announced that pre-orders for the electric car will start on June 29 this year.

On the same day, the automaker will announce the date of the annual Nikola World event, and pre-ordering Nikola Badger will receive tickets to the event, which will host the “live” pickup premiere.

Company boss Trevor Milton said that the presentation will show not a show car, but a working pickup truck, for example, with ready-made climate control and other systems. And he showed what the interior of the car with a huge screen would look like:

Nikola was assured that the electric version of Badger will be able to cover almost 500 km on a single charge. And the version with fuel cells is almost 1000 km. At the same time, all owners of the regular version can optionally make the car “hydrogen”, increasing the range.

The Badger will have 906 horsepower, 1,329 Nm of torque, a 160-kilowatt-hour battery pack and 120 kW fuel cell installation. The pickup will accommodate five people. To accelerate to “hundreds” should take 2.9 seconds.

Nikola announced that the pickup will be built in conjunction with another car manufacturer and using its parts. What kind of company it will be and how much Badger will cost is still unknown.

By the way, Elon Musk promised that Tesla Cybertruck will be able to swim. On the electric pickup it will be quite possible to go fishing or hunting. In the spring of 2020, Tesla received more than half a million pre-orders for Cybertruck. It is expected to go on sale in 2021.
