Members of the Greens from the European Parliament, federal and state parliaments plead in Breisach for the construction of the Freiburg-Colmar railway connection.
A rail connection from Freiburg to Colmar via the Rhine near Breisach is to be planned and built before the end of this decade. At an on-site meeting in Breisach, Green members of the European Parliament, federal and state parliaments committed themselves to the project, the cost of which was estimated at around 300 million euros in 2019. Breisach’s mayor and CDU district councilor Oliver Rein made it clear that planning for the route and the necessary changes to the road network as a result must be tackled now.
. Breisach offers the opportunity to close a gap between the German and French railway networks, explained Green MEP Anne Deparnay-Grunenberg. Nowhere else in the EU would two major centers, Freiburg and Colmar, barely 60 kilometers apart, not have a rail connection.
