Oppo and Hasselblad do this to “provide legendary professional experience” on smartphone

Oppo and Hasselblad Forge Mobile Photography Future

New Partnership Unveils Advanced Imaging Technologies

Oppo and Hasselblad have reignited their strategic alliance, pushing the boundaries of smartphone photography. The collaboration aims to redefine mobile imaging with innovations like the True Chroma Camera and Ai Bokeh Engine, inspired by Hasselblad’s iconic X2D camera.

Next-Generation Imaging Unveiled

Four years after their initial collaboration, Oppo and Hasselblad have committed to a renewed partnership, solidifying their joint pursuit of next-generation mobile imaging systems. The announcement took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, signaling a significant step forward in mobile camera technology.

The partnership aims to bring professional-grade photography to smartphones.

This collaboration has already propelled Oppo devices to the forefront of mobile photography. The Oppo Find X8 Ultra, for instance, achieved a remarkable 169 score on DxOMark, securing the top position in their rankings, a testament to the synergy between the two brands.

Introducing True Chroma Camera

A standout innovation is the industry-first True Chroma Camera. This groundbreaking technology dynamically adjusts white balance across different image areas, rather than applying a single correction. It analyzes local lighting conditions to precisely fine-tune color temperature.

True Chroma Camera aims to deliver more realistic colors in diverse lighting.

This feature addresses a common challenge in mobile photography: the inaccurate rendering of colors in mixed lighting environments. True Chroma Camera promises to restore natural hues in every part of the image, creating more lifelike and balanced photographs.

The development of True Chroma Camera draws heavily on Hasselblad’s renowned color science. Engineers meticulously studied thousands of images captured with Hasselblad equipment to replicate the brand’s distinctive color nuances.

Ai Bokeh Engine Mimics Professional Optics

Another significant advancement is the Ai Bokeh Engine, designed to faithfully emulate the bokeh characteristics of the legendary Hasselblad X2D. This AI-powered system analyzes depth of field to generate background blur that mimics professional Hasselblad lenses.

The system is expected to excel in portrait photography, offering precise subject cutouts, even with intricate details like hair, and a natural appearance. The AI Bokeh Engine incorporates the optical geometry of Hasselblad lenses, replicating aspects such as bokeh shape, the transition between sharp and blurred areas, and the rendering of light sources.

This technological leap moves smartphone photography closer to the quality typically achieved by high-end DSLR cameras. Penta Camera System for Versatility

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra features a comprehensive Penta Camera system, equipped with five dedicated sensors. This configuration ensures coverage of all essential focal lengths and use cases, including ultra-wide, main, telephoto, macro, and depth sensing. Each lens is meticulously optimized for its specific photographic task.

Oppo also highlights its Master mode, which allows users to capture images in JPEG format up to 50 MP and RAW format up to 16-bit 50 MP. These high-resolution, uncompressed files provide extensive flexibility for post-production editing.

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra was officially unveiled on April 10, 2025, and released in China on April 16, 2025. Currently, there are no plans for a release in France or Europe, mirroring the market strategy for its predecessor, the Find X7 Ultra.
