Opera singer Caroline Kaart (88) made classical music popular again

Opera singer and presenter Caroline Kaart passed away yesterday at the age of 88. Map became known through programs such as A song with Caroline and the radio program Classic with Caroline.

In recent years, Map has stayed in the Rosa Spier Huis, a living and working community in Laren for older artists. “She was a very sympathetic woman and she was very witty”, says colleague Francis van Broekhuizen. “But she was also very unhappy.”

Two years ago, Card said in a documentary about the Rosa Spier House that she felt lonely. “I am an old single person, with a very small dog and that’s all”, she said at the time.
