OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Agent: A Proactive AI Assistant

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Agent, a new AI model designed to proactively think and perform computer tasks on behalf of users.
This powerful and versatile model, part of the same family as GPT-4, integrates existing ChatGPT features and can conduct research, generate reports, execute code, create presentations and spreadsheets, and connect to external data sources and applications.
Examples of its capabilities include consulting a calendar for upcoming meetings based on recent news, planning and purchasing ingredients for a meal, and analyzing competitors to create a presentation.
The ChatGPT Agent operates within its own virtual computer, allowing it to navigate websites, filter results, request user authentication when necessary, and deliver research summaries.OpenAI emphasizes that the agent seeks authorization before taking actions with significant consequences and that users can interrupt or modify tasks at any time.
This new functionality is being progressively rolled out to paid users, including Pro, Plus, and Team subscribers. users can select “Agent mode” from the composer’s dropdown menu during a conversation and switch between classic discussion and action requests within the same chat.
openai plans to extend this feature to Enterprise and Education users in the coming weeks. Pro subscribers receive 400 messages per month, while other paid users get 40 messages monthly, with options to purchase additional credits.
