Opel’s parent company closes 15 factories across Europe Industry News automobile

The Opel parent company PSA will close 15 car factories in Europe in the coming days due to the Covid 19 pandemic. In Germany, tomorrow the Rüsselsheim and Eisenach sites will be affected, as the manufacturer in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris announced. Locations in Spain, France, Portugal, Great Britain and Slovakia are also affected.

The company also operates a large engine plant in Vienna-Aspern. This site is apparently not affected by the temporary closings.

The closings at the locations mentioned will last until March 27. The Peugeot manufacturer cited interruptions in the supply chain and a significant decline in the automotive markets as reasons.

The French manufacturer is currently preparing for its merger with the Italian-American car giant Fiat Chrysler. Opel has been a part of PSA for a good two and a half years. (dpa / apa / red)
