The Opel car factory in Eisenach, in central Germany, will be shut down at least until the end of this year due to the global shortage of semiconductors. A spokesperson for the German manufacturer told the trade magazine Automobilwoche.

French-Italian-American parent company Stellantis will shut down production in Eisenach next week. The Grandland X SUV rolls off the production line at the plant in the state of Thuringia. Production of the model in Sochaux, France, will continue. There are no plans to push the stop button in that former Peugeot factory.
Car factories worldwide are struggling with the chip shortage, also in Belgium. For example, the Audi factory in Forest, Audi Brussels, is currently shut down again, it was announced last week. Volvo’s passenger car factory in Ghent has also experienced problems before, as has the Volvo Trucks factory in Ghent.
