On 1 September in Rüsselsheim, Opel presented the brand new Astra generation. For the first time, the successful compact with the Blitz is also offered in an electric version. The new Opel Astra comes to yours sixth generation and will also be available in a plug-in hybrid version from October, the House has just opened orders.
The battery-electric Opel Astra-e will arrive on the market in 2023. The car is also available with efficient petrol and diesel units, which will allow customers to choose their preferred engine.
Thirty years of success for the Opel Astra
Since the launch of the model that replaced the Kadett in 1991, Opel sold nearly 15 million Astra; Exactly 30 years have passed and the compact is always at the forefront of its segment, it also represents the stylistic manifesto of the brand. Dynamic as never before, with clean and taut surfaces, with a detox of superfluous elements and with the new face of the brand, Opel Vizor.
The sixth generation of Opel Astra is launched in 5-door sports version, with a lowered appearance and with more space than the previous model; was designed and developed at the company’s German headquarters, where it will also be produced. The car brings in the category of innovations that were previously only present on more expensive vehicles. For example, the latest evolution of the Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light active headlights debuts, lighting system that comes from Insignia, the Opel flagship. The new Astra has also evolved a lot in the interior, with the Pure Panel, completely digital, with which the analogue instrumentation disappears.

Opel Astra, also plug-in hybrid and electric for the first time
The new Opel Astra shows what the House means when it speaks of “Green innovation”, driving pleasure combined with respect for the environment. The hugely successful compact will be electrified for the first time, the first Opel available in a plug-in hybrid version with two power levels and, from 2023, also in a battery-electric version (Opel Astra-e). Versions with efficient diesel and petrol engines, combined with low friction gearboxes, six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic, will be available immediately. The range offers all traction options. Power levels range from 81 kW / 110 hp to 165 kW / 225 hp. With the Astra, Opel combines driving pleasure, maximum efficiency and environmental awareness.
The top of the range version is Opel Astra plug-in hybrid, the rechargeable offers a system output of 165 kW / 225 hp and a maximum torque of 360 Nm. The 1.6 four-cylinder generates 133 kW / 180 hp, the electric motor contributes 81 kW / 110 hp. Power is transmitted to the front axle via the convenient eight-speed automatic transmission.
A hybrid version will also be included in the price list with a system power of 132 kW / 180 hp, the maximum torque remains 360 Nm, the power of the petrol engine is 110 kW / 150 hp. For zero-emission urban driving, electric mode can be chosen. In that case, thanks to the 12.4 kWh battery, the new Astra hybrid is able to travel up to approximately 60 kilometers in the WLTP cycle in 100% electric mode.

The heat engines that complete the range are distinguished by high efficiency and low consumption of fuel:
turbo petrol 1.2 liters three-cylinder direct injection with six-speed manual gearbox generates 81 kW / 110 hp, boasts a combined WLTP fuel consumption of 5.5-5.4 l / 100 km and CO2 emissions of 125-123 g / km;
96 kW / 130 hp petrol with six-speed manual gearbox, fuel consumption of 5.6-5.4 l / 100 km, CO2 emissions of 127-122 g / km;
the same petrol, but with eight-speed automatic transmission, fuel consumption 5.8-5.5 l / 100 km, CO2 emissions equal to 131-125 g / km;
diesel 1.5 liters four-cylinder 96 kW / 130 horsepower, with six-speed manual gearbox, fuel consumption 4.5-4.4 l / 100 km, CO2 emissions of 117-113 g / km;
the same 1.5 diesel with eight-speed automatic transmission, fuel consumption 4.7-4.5 l / 100 km, CO2 emissions equal to 121-116 g / km.

Opel Astra becomes ‘essential’
The passenger compartment of the new generation of Opel Astra has made a very important time jump, is closely linked to the “perceived quality”. In fact, when you sit behind the wheel you feel immediately welcomed. It is a fantastic feeling of well-being, which is achieved reducing the passenger compartment to the essential elements, the development team talks about “Visual Detox”. With the fully digital Pure Panel dashboard, the analog displays of the past disappear completely. The new, extremely clear human-machine interface offers an intuitive user experience. The team decided to leave physical buttons for some functions.
Quality aboard the new Opel Astra
Perceived quality has taken on new meaning on the Opel Astra, but without overshadowing the other typical Opel features. The manufacturer explained: “It was obvious to us that the new Opel Astra can only be desirable if we keep the classic characteristics of the brand. Therefore, alongside the perceived ‘soft’ quality, the ‘quality of substance’ also plays an important role “.
In fact, Opel has long been known as “the reliable” and moreover the new Astra brings in the class of compact innovations that until now were only present on vehicles of higher categories, including the latest version of the adaptive Intelli-Lux headlights. LED Pixel or the front seats certified by AGR’s posture experts, which have been developed in-house. The feeling that prevails in the development team is pride in the results they have managed to achieve; the technical manager, on behalf of the whole team, said: “We want customers to feel the enthusiasm that all the people involved in the development have put into this car”.

Opel Astra, the sixth generation: list prices
After the Opel Mokka, Crossland and Grandland SUVs, the new Astra is the first Opel sedan to interpret the brand’s ‘bold and pure’ stylistic philosophy. Production begins this fall and the list prices start at 24,500 euros. The car boasts a sporty appearance, but loses nothing from the point of view of practicality in everyday use. In the future, customers will also be able to choose it with the contrasting two-tone finish, which underlines the sporty character of the model.
