Ontario is reconfiguring itself, but not like Quebec

Like Quebec, Ontario returned to strict containment on Saturday, but the rules differ slightly between the two provinces.

This comes as the country’s most populous province recorded 4,301 new cases in two days, Friday and Saturday.

Ski centers are closed in Ontario, for example, while they are open in Quebec under strict conditions.

Also: in southern Ontario, high school students will return to class only at the end of January, while in Quebec, face-to-face classes will resume at the same time as elementary school, on January 11.

In Ontario, confinement will last longer than in Quebec, at least in the southern regions, where the main cities are located.

The new rules will apply there for four weeks, while they will be in effect for two weeks in northern Ontario.

In Quebec, the closure of non-essential businesses will last until January 10 inclusively, regardless of the level of alert in the region where we are.

Roughly speaking, the list of non-essential services is roughly the same in both provinces.

The new health standards are being imposed in Ontario after two cases of the new strain of coronavirus have just been discovered there.

This variant of the virus is said to be much more contagious, but there is no indication yet that it is more dangerous.
