Only one in three companies have enough staff in…

Together with Gartner, Körber has published the “Supply Chain Benchmarking Report”, which covers a total of six hot topics in logistics. One of them concerns employees, especially missing employees. Because according to the study (for which more than 200 companies with at least 500 employees in North America and Europe were surveyed), only 37 percent of companies have enough workers; more than one in three change at least 50% of their warehouse staff during the year.

“With one in three logistics companies having to replace at least half of their warehouse-related workforce each year, companies need to rethink this. Solutions are needed to motivate long-term employees, make workplaces more attractive, improve onboarding measures for temporary workers to cope with seasonal peaks, and comply with ever-changing health and safety guidelines. This task can be handled with suitable software solutions and technologies,” says Chad Collins, CEO Software in the Supply Chain business area at Körber.

For the study, participating companies were ranked according to four levels of maturity (leading, advanced, developmental, and incipient). The study also shows what strategies leading companies have developed to react to the increasingly tense job market. While 65% of companies are struggling, major market players are moving beyond the conventional avenues of recruiting and retention and focusing more on issues such as employee well-being or safety. Most companies are investing in workplace safety, gamification and ergonomics to attract and retain employees.
