Summer promises to be busy to say the least in Barcelona. And for good reason, Quique Setién’s team seems to need reinforcements in all positions. As usual, a slew of names appeared in the Catalan press, ranging from the inevitable Neymar to Lautaro Martinez, including Aymeric Laporte, Tanguy Ndombele, Fabian Ruiz and Dayot Upamecano. Reinforcement is expected per line, at a minimum. But the club’s financial situation, already not necessarily reassuring before this coronavirus crisis, is still taking a big hit. So much so that the leaders have already given up on Neymar …
Anyway, for there to be arrivals, there will have to be departures. Even if the exchange of players could become a common practice this summer in Barcelona and elsewhere – we talk about it in Operation Martinez – the Catalans need cash. And according to ESPN, all players in the squad are potentially on the market in the event of an offer deemed satisfactory. All but three: Marc-André ter Stegen, Frenkie de Jong and Lionel Messi. The backbone of this FC Barcelona and Barça for years to come.
None of the three players will therefore be sold or traded as part of another transfer. For the rest of the team, anything can happen. We recall that currently, FC Barcelona is negotiating hard with Marc-André ter Stegen for a contract extension and an increased salary, while the extension of Lionel Messi is also part of the files on the table of Josep Maria Bartomeu and Company. As for Frenkie de Jong, who arrived a little less than a year ago, he is considered the future of the club in the middle. Notice to interested clubs therefore, many FC Barcelona players could leave this summer …
