Online presidency election 50Plus could be manipulated – Computer – News

50Plus’ online elections were easy to manipulate. A security researcher tells the NOS that he could cast false votes during a members meeting. It is the second time in a short time that online votes have been discredited.

Researcher Jordy San Jose Sanchez was able to vote a few times during a recent digital meeting of the party 50Plus, he tells the NOS. The meeting was important; among other things, a new party chairman was elected.

San Jose Sanchez was able to register for the meeting with a fictitious name and an email address from the Yandex service. He could thus cast an extra vote. It concerned one vote per registration. San Jose Sanchez tried to sign up two accounts, but went wrong once. During the registration process, a telephone number was asked, but the researcher was able to get around that.

It is the second time in a short period of time that digital party elections have not turned out flawlessly. The same San Jose Sanchez also knew last month manipulate the CDA lead election. 50Plus confirms the new problem against the NOS, but sees few problems. “One vote can do no harm”, party chairman Jan Nagel told the broadcaster. Initially the intention would have been to verify votes mainly with their membership number, but that would have turned out to be ‘too great a barrier’.
