One ton of fish production; 1.32 tonnes of carbon dioxide is emitted

Kochi ∙ According to a study report, 1.32 tonnes of carbon dioxide is released when one tonne of fish is produced from the marine fisheries sector of India. You can take comfort in the fact that it is lower than the global rate in India. Globally it is more than two tons.

The findings are in a study conducted by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) on climate change. This is the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by activities ranging from preparation for fishing to the delivery of fish to the market.

CMFRI presented these figures at a review meeting of the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) research project implemented by the National Center for Agricultural Research (ICAR) to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Dr. CMFRI’s studies presented that increasing intensity of cyclones, rising sea level and increasing sea surface temperature are causing significant changes in the marine ecosystem. Greenson George said. He said that this has led to the decline of some fish and the increase of some species. ICAR Deputy Director General Dr SK Chaudhary presided over the function.

English Summary: Carbon Dioxide emission through fish cultivation
