A road accident involving two cars occurred Friday evening in the Bernissart region, between Tournai and Mons. A French national was killed instantly. Five other people were hospitalized.

The rescue services of Picardy Wallonia were called to intervene on Friday shortly before 9 p.m. for a collision between two cars that occurred along the road from Mons to Ville-Pommeroeul, in the entity of Bernissart.
Coming from the Wapi and Borinage areas, two SMURs, five ambulances, an extrication vehicle and a command vehicle were dispatched to the scene. The accident occurred between a car registered in Belgium, occupied by a single person, and a vehicle registered in France carrying five people.
When the emergency responders arrived, the French national was already deceased. Two of the five occupants, seriously injured, had to be extricated. These two people and the two other occupants of the vehicle were distributed to various hospitals in the region. In the other car, the driver was able to extract himself from his vehicle. Slightly injured, the driver was also admitted to a hospital.
At 10:30 p.m., the road to Mons (RN50) near Ville-Pommeroeul was still closed to traffic, in both directions. Local diversions were put in place by the Péruwelz-Bernissart police. The emergency services are always on site and are cleaning this road. A representative of the parquet floor of Tournai-Mons must come down to the scene.
