Vladimir-Volynsky renamed

Vladimir-Volynsky was given back his historical name, which he had before 1911. The decision has yet to be approved by the Verkhovna Rada.

The city council of Vladimir-Volynsky on Friday, October 1, voted to return the historical name of the city – Vladimir. The video of the vote was published by People’s Deputy Vladimir Vyatrovich on his page in Facebook.

Only one deputy spoke out against the renaming. 30 local deputies voted “for”. There are 34 deputies in the city council.

“The city council of Vladimir-Volynsky supported the decision to return the city’s historical name – Vladimir, without the nagging invented by the Russians,” Vyatrovich wrote.

According to the procedure, now the decision of the local council must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Until 1911 the city was called Vladimir. Then “Volynsky” was added to the name to distinguish it from the Russian city of Vladimir-on-Klyazma.

Remind me, a few days earlier in Kharkov the court once again declared illegal returning to Grigorenko Avenue the name of Marshal Zhukov.

South Africa renamed the city in honor of the wife of Nelson Mandela
