“One of the messages were more political than we have seen in a long time”

In his first budget address, the governor Wanda Vazquez provided a political message full of promise and of allocation of responsibilities to the Board of Fiscal Control and to the Legislature.

At least so thought the analyst statesman Alejandro Figueroa and the representative of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), Jesus Manuel Ortizin a table analysis with Metro.

“A person who first told the country when he gave his first interview since The Fortress was that it was not policy and that I had no intention of entering politics or being re-elected. And the message is limited to offer a quincalla of funds come from the federal government under the Cares Act to gain support that has not been achieved with their execution,” said Figueroa.

The analyst added that the message of the governor is disconnected from the realities that arise day to day in the country as the families that still do not have safe housing after the earthquakes of the south and to the students of the system the public had to finish the semester early due to the pandemic.

For his part, Ortiz agreed with Figueroa, and proposed that the proposals of the governor are subject to the support of the Legislature and the Board of Fiscal Control and that, if not met, could point to these two entities as responsible for not completed.

“The intent of saying ‘I propose this Legislature to help me with this’ is to try to leave the door open if you can, it’s going to be a responsible; or the Legislature, the team [Pedro] Pierluisi, or the Board,” said the legislator.

“The governor who said that was not a policy I think has given one of the messages were more political than we have seen in a long time,” he continued.

Figueroa, also, argued that many of the promises presented by the governor are proposals that —in the face of a primary on the 9th of August— do not require their execution in the next few days. “To the extent that it is not something that you have to fulfill, in the primary what you promise and that God dealt luck”.

For its part, the legislator Ortiz reported that, so far, they have not delivered the document of the budget that must be approved no later than Thursday. However, Friday morning the House of Representatives will hold a public hearing to discuss the financial document of the country.

“I have noticed that there is a delegation de facto not to open up a discussion time. Ends the budget of the Board prevail. It seems to Me regrettable”, questioned the legislator.
