One of the miners involved in the death of Priscilla Sergeant, 14, in 2012, was sentenced by the Brussels Criminal Court on Monday to nine months in prison for assault and battery. A., now 23, had received a reprimand from the Youth Division of the Court of Appeal for his role in the death of Priscilla Sergeant. The accused already has four correctional convictions, three of which were for acts of violence.

The young man was tried this time with his two brothers and a friend for a confrontation, in September 2017, with a couple and his son. The couple were returning from church when they passed Hal in front of A., his brothers and their friend. The latter, S.P., kicked the car because it almost hit him. The couple’s wife then got out of the vehicle. She was pushed. Her husband also got out of the car and was beaten.
The couple had called their son to the rescue. K.D.W. arrived there but the quartet had disappeared. He managed to catch them and a second confrontation took place.
The court found it established that A. and his friend S.P. had struck. They face nine months in prison and a fine of 800 euros. The duo must also compensate the victims up to 3,610 euros.
A.’s two brothers were acquitted for the benefit of the doubt. K.D.W. He was also acquitted, the court finding that it had not been established that he had beaten up.
