In 2022, electricity prices will increase significantly. The Energy Regulatory Office (URE) approved new tariffs for state-owned customers of PGE, Energa, Enea and Tauron in December. They will be higher by an average of 24 percent. from last year.

Millions of Poles are anxiously waiting for the first bills, wondering how much more they will pay. Customers of other electricity suppliers, whose price lists are not regulated by officials, have an even greater question mark. In December, the company sent letters to one million Warsaw customers informing about increases in electricity rates. The price of electricity is to increase by 33.2 percent from January, and the trading fee by a maximum of PLN 1.91 per month. Meanwhile, many of them have signed contracts that were to guarantee a fixed price, previously negotiated.

Increases not for everyone
A change in prices and rates in sales tariffs does not change the price of electricity in contracts signed for a definite period of time, in which a fixed selling price has been specified. In them, E.ON Polska guarantees the unit prices of electricity sales for the entire period defined by the validity of a given contract – ensure E.ON press services, quoted by the Business Insider portal.

The same goes for the trade fee. It will only increase for customers whose previously signed contracts did not include a price guarantee. For a family that consumes 1.6 MWh of electricity annually, the monthly bill may be higher by about PLN 24 gross.

The energy supplier admits that letters informing about increases in electricity prices were sent to all customers. So not only those whose rates will actually be changed from January. Hence the confusion.

E.ON explains that clear rate increases were necessary. The cost of energy that the company obtains for customers on wholesale markets has risen sharply. This is mainly due to the rising costs of CO2 emission allowances and the ever higher costs of raw materials and fuels used to generate energy.

Ways to get high bills
There is no escaping the increases in electricity bills. However, you can try to manage energy consumption more economically. It is worth learning some habits.

The first rule – turn off not only the light, but also the electrical device from the socket. If we go to sleep, it is obvious for us to turn off the light in the bedroom or living room. We also turn off the TV and other equipment, but it remains active. Even in this mode, it consumes electricity. Therefore, it is better to disconnect the device completely from the outlet.

The second rule – choose energy-saving devices. If we want to pay lower electricity bills, we must remember to use devices with low energy consumption. A step in the right direction will be, among others purchase of energy-saving LED bulbs, which are about 80 percent. more effective than traditional ones. In addition, they provide stronger light.

Another rule is the proper use of electrical appliances in the house or apartment. The refrigerator should be in a cool and shaded place, a few centimeters from the wall. In the case of a washing machine or dishwasher, the key is to fill them completely and use shorter work programs.

For devices such as a smartphone or laptop, it is worth remembering about extinguishing them when we do not use them. You can also turn them on in power saving mode to slightly extend their battery life.
