The coronavirus pandemic has affected many industries, including the world of car shows. It started in the spring, when shortly before its opening this year’s Geneva Motor Show was canceled. And it continued in the following months, when other car showrooms were gradually canceled – in New York, Paris or Los Angeles. At first, some organizers only tried to change the date of their exhibition, but in the end they had to completely cancel this year’s edition. After all, one interesting car show will take place in Europe this year, and a completely new one!
It is officially called the Milano Monza Open Air Motor Show and we first heard about her a year ago, when its organizers indicated that they have ambitions to become a kind of Italian alternative to the British Festival of Speed in Goodwood. It is therefore not a car show in the classic sense of the word, but rather a car show offering cars in motion, just supplemented by presentation stands of individual brands.

Originally, the first year of this MIMO car show was scheduled for June 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic did not postpone it until the autumn. The October date already seems to be the final one, so the event will take place between Thursday, October 29, and Sunday, November 1, in the originally planned locations, which are the center of Milan and the famous Monza circuit.
In Milan, right on and around the famous Piazza Duomo, the public will be able to see the exhibition stands of the manufacturers, which should also include prototypes and other specialties. At the same time, the participation of more than 50 companies is confirmed, the cars will include Bugatti, Citroën, Cupra, Dacia, Dallara, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Pagani, Porsche and Škoda.
In addition, there will be the opportunity to try selected electric cars and plug-in hybrids, in the vicinity of another equally famous Milan monument, Castello Sforzesco.
The second part of the autoshow will then take place directly on the Monza circuit. Here, visitors can primarily look forward to car presentations directly while driving, there will also be circuit rides for car clubs, collectors and the carmakers themselves. There will also be a Sunday Gran Prix Parco Valentino race or a Thursday night show of supersports.

However, the coronavirus pandemic did not only affect the date of the event itself, but also the overall nature. The part of Monza was originally supposed to be open to the public, but in the end, unfortunately, it will only be available to invited guests. On the contrary, the part in the center of Milan will be open to the public completely free of charge.
The organizers then try to minimize the risk of spreading coronavirus, which Italy was severely affected by in the spring. Instead of traditional printed materials, QR codes will be available at each stand, with the help of which visitors will be able to download all important information about the presented cars to their mobile phones. The organizers also warn that they will strictly monitor the regulations on wearing veils.
